What is Support?
When the price of an asset is falling and repeatedly hits a specific level where it stops and bounces back up, that level is called Support.
Example: Imagine a share price drops from 120. When it reaches 100, it stops falling. From 100, the price goes back up to 105 or 110. After this happens a few times, we identify 100 as the support level. Buyers consider 100 cheap, so they buy more here.
What is Resistance?
When the price is rising and repeatedly hits a specific level where it stops and starts falling again, that level is called Resistance.
Example: Imagine the price rises to 130, but cannot go above it. Every time it hits 130, the price drops back down to 125. 130 is the resistance level. Sellers consider 130 profitable, so they sell their shares here.
What is Breakout?
When the price breaks through its support or resistance level and continues moving in that direction, it is called a Breakout.
Example: If the price breaks the 130 resistance and shoots up to 140 or 150, that’s a breakout. Remember, once old resistance is broken, it becomes the new support. If the price drops again, it will likely bounce back up from 130.
Simple rules to remember:
- Support: The level where price bounces UP.
- Resistance: The level where price drops DOWN.
- Breakout: When price BREAKS the level and creates a new path.
